Evelyn
Wolff is an artist, psychotherapist and medical doctor, practising
Integrative Medicine. As the designer of Wolff’s Glass Luminations,
she combines a finely tuned colour sensibility, with an apprenticeship
in the European
tradition of stained glass. Her flair for innovative design and engineering
stretch the limits of this crystalline medium.
Evelyn’s most joyful childhood memories include making mosaics using
colourful rubber tiles. Later she studied acrylic painting with Francis
Pond, in Sault Ste. Marie. On finding herself struggling to create the
effect of “lighted glass” in her paintings, she travelled
Europe to see its best stained glass windows, and moved to Toronto to
complete
an apprenticeship with Robert Jeckyll 1976-1977. Then she pursued independent
studies at Sheridan College and Ontario College of Art, learning three
dimensional design, glass painting, low relief glass casting, and silk-screening
with Shirley Fineblit, and further painting techniques with Allan Stein.
Evelyn loves to design unique, intricate jewel-like personal pieces attuned
to the client but is also comfortable designing architectural concepts
for residential,
commercial-corporate, or ecclesiastical contexts. She uses lustrous hand-blown
glass imported from Europe, as well as the most expressive glass the
U.S.A. has to offer. She has it assembled using the time consuming but visually
rewarding copper-foil technique.
The radiance of the resultant art form, both intense and sublime is the fruit
of Evelyn’s continuing dedication to life. The focus of her explorations
in using glass to reflect the soul’s joyous dance of light and colour,
transform it into healing medium.
